3. Water Drainage: Storm Drain and Dry Well

Water drainage and runoff problems often cause foundation damage and wet basements. In our recent cement block foundation project, we needed a place for all the water runoff from the downspouts to go, someplace that was NOT the driveway or the basement!

To address this we installed a drain system for the downspouts, piping the excess water into an underground cachment area downhill and out of the danger zone. This type of water disposal, called a “dry well”, can be either a concrete cistern with drainage holes, or  filled with rock and gravel- it provides a place for excess water to drain harmlessly into the ground, out in the backyard.

As you can see it’s quite large and has capacity enough for the biggest storms! Peter Maguire can consult with you to determine the best drainage solutions for your property.
